FIVE SAC SOFTBALL TEAMS EARN BIDS TO 2022 NCAA DII SOUTHEAST REGIONAL TOURNAMENT
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.
– The NCAA Division II Softball Committee announced Monday morning the 64 teams selected to participate in the 2022 DII softball championship. 64 teams qualified and will compete in one of 16 regional sites, where they’ll play in a double-elimination format from May 12-14. Regional winners will advance to the super regionals, which are scheduled for May 19-20. Winners from super regionals will advance to the finals which will be played May 26-31 at Regency Athletic Complex in Denver, Colorado. Representing the South Atlantic Conference was Anderson, Lincoln Memorial, Lenoir-Rhyne, Wingate and Carson-Newman.
Regionally and nationally ranked Anderson claimed the No. 1 seed and will host the southeast 1 region tournament portion taking on the No. 8 seed Frances Marion. Lincoln Memorial took the No. 5 seed and will play the No. 4 seed King, No. 2 seed Lenoir-Rhyne has earned first round hosting rights for the southeast 2 region tournament portion and will take on the No. 7 seed Wingate. Finally, No. 6 seed Carson-Newman will face off with the No. 3 seed North Georgia.
Teams participating in this year’s championship have been split into 16 different regional sites with four programs at each site to play a double-elimination tournament. Regionals will start on Thursday May 12th and go through the 14th.
Of the 64 teams in the championship field, 23 earned spots as automatic qualifiers, including Anderson University for the Southeast Region.
