-

In early April 2022 investigators with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division received information concerning a location on Providence Mill Rd where suspected stolen Catalytic Convertors were being purchased. This information led to investigators executing a search warrant at the Providence Mill Rd location on 04/26/2022.

At the Providence Mill Rd location investigators interacted with Todd Allen Lail who was found to be in possession of 47 Catalytic Convertors. Convertors such as these have an estimated scrap metal value of $40,000.00. These convertors were seized by investigators along with other items and documents denoting the transacting of convertor purchases.

Lail was arrested and has been charged with a crime titled Chop Shop Activity, which is a class G felony. Lail was given a $15,000.00 unsecured bond and has a first appearance in Catawba County District Court on 05/23/2022.

This investigation is continuing. Additional charges are pending.
