Memorial Weekend activities with the American Legion Post 544

-

Memorial Weekend activities with the American Legion Post 544 and Auxiliary located at 420 — 26th Ave. N.E. Hickory. We are asking our community to remember what Memorial Day is all about.

The American Legion Auxiliary poppy has continue to bloom for the casualities of four wars. It’s petals of paper bound together for veterans, by veterans, reminding Americans each year that the men and women who have served and died for their country deserve to be remembered.

Please be on the look-out for American Legion Auxiliary members out on Friday, May 27th and Saturday, May 28th distributing Poppies in Remembrance of our Military Service Members, and WEAR YOUR POPPY WITH PRIDE!

“In Flanders Field” by— Lt. Col. John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row

That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow.

Loved, and were loved, And now we lie in Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from falling hands we throw

The Torch; be yours to hold it high

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields. “RESPONSE” BY Molna Michael

...the blood of heroes never dies, But lends a luster to the red

Of the flower that blooms above the dead in Flanders Fields
