LR’s Alexis Brown Wins Two National Championships
PITTSBURG, KAN. - Alexis Brown left her mark on the final day of the 2023-24 indoor track and field season by winning two national championships.
The sophomore recorded first-place finishes in both the women’s 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, which was good enough to tally 20 points throughout the weekend.
In the 60-meter dash, Brown finished with a time of 7.18, which tied the NCAA Division II national championship record. She finished fourth in the event just a year ago and clipped nearly two tenths of a second from 2023.
Then, roughly an hour later, Brown prevailed in the 200-meter dash with a 23.32 posting. For the Mableton, Ga. native, she has finished on top of the podium for the second-straight season.
While Brown stole the show on the short track, the Bears had another top three finish with the men’s 4x400meter relay team posting a time of 3:10.76.
The four-man team of Clarence McGill, Marcus Crumpler, Olawole Olanrewaju, and Bamidele Ajayi came in as the 11th seed in the event, but quickly set the tempo by winning the first heat of the event. The time is also the fastest the group has recorded during the indoor season.
For the team competition, Brown’s two national titles brings the LR women to a ninth-place finish on the leaderboard with 20 points. As for the men, the third-place finish from the men’s 4x400meter relay team gave LR four points, which was good enough for 30th.
