Art in the Park Event to benefit Women’s Resource Center
Women’s Resource Center (WRC) is excited to announce the return of its highly anticipated fourth annual “Art in the Park” event on Saturday, May 4th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will take place at Sally Fox Park in Hickory, where the Center is located.
Following the tremendous success of last year’s event, which drew hundreds of supporters, WRC is gearing up for another unforgettable day filled with art, entertainment, and community spirit.
This year’s festivities include a diverse lineup of local artisans showcasing their talent, a silent auction, delightful culinary offerings from Caribbean Sandwich And Pinchos and CHAR Fresh Grill food trucks, and craft beer provided by Sidetracked Brewery. Children can engage in art activities led by Hickory Museum of Art staff, and there will be face painting for all.
Adding to the excitement, local singer-songwriter Dani Kerr will be performing. Dani, recently recruited by the producers of ‘America’s Got Talent’ for Season 18, promises to deliver an unforgettable experience.
Michelle Morgan, Executive Director of Women’s Resource Center, expresses her enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to have Dani Kerr perform at our fundraising event. The growth of our event each year is a testament to the incredible support from our community. This year, we are delighted to welcome fifty local artists, with the first twenty-five artists receiving tents and tables, courtesy of a grant from the United Arts Council of Catawba County’s Community Cultural Fund.”
WRC is honored to announce the debut of the Jan & Ted Taylor Memorial Juried Art Showcase, adding an extra layer of excitement to this year’s Art in the Park 2024 event. This special exhibit serves as a tribute to the enduring legacy of Janice P. Taylor and Charles E. “Ted” Taylor, beloved parents of longtime WRC supporter and local Attorney Jason E. Taylor. Mr. Taylor states, “When the Art in the Park fundraiser began years ago, I immediately thought of my mother, who was an artist, and of my father’s joy and pride in watching her create. This year, I felt driven to honor their legacy. After a brainstorming session with Michelle, the Jan & Ted Taylor Memorial Juried Art Showcase was born.
Ms. Morgan expresses gratitude for the Taylor family’s enduring support, stating, “We’re honored to introduce this new addition to Art in the Park. The juried art show is a heartfelt tribute to Jason’s parents, reflecting their love for art and community.” Jason E. Taylor shares the sentiment, saying, “My parents would have embraced the mission of the Women’s Resource Center and the Art in the Park event. Creating this memorial showcase is a meaningful way to honor their legacy and contribute to this vital community event.”
As always, proceeds from Art in the Park will directly support WRC’s mission of assisting women and families in need. Admission is free, welcoming all to enjoy this celebration of art and empowerment.
