Traveling across the globe, from Paris to Singapore to London, is just part of the job for a rockin’ tennis player but this Nextgen star doesn’t have to journey too far for the Miami Open, since she calls Miami home. Puerto Rican- born, Monica Puig tends to favor hard courts and surely showed us her stuff this summer in Rio! Puig conquered the courts to take home the Gold at the 2016 Summer Olympics and became the first athlete to win an Olympic gold medal while representing Puerto Rico and the ninth overall medalist for that delegation. Get this-puig also is the first Latin American player to win the women’s singles tournament. This dynamic lady defeated two top-5 opponents and even took down second ranked Angelique Kerber in the final. AND…PUIG is the only unseeded female player to win gold since the reintroduction of tennis to the Olympics in 1988. Keep your eyes peeled for more jaw-dropping news with this sensational star.
