Hairstylist-to-the-stars Danny Jelaca has more than a pair of scissors up his sleeve this September.
Tell us about your new salon, opening at the Miami Beach Marina. I’m opening a one-stop shop [this September], all very luxurious and high-end. We’re doing a wide array of medical spa services. We’ll [also] have a manicure/pedicure salon, a fullservice O.P Makeup Studio, and a private spa treatment room. Everything will be illuminated. The color station is going to look like a floating bar.
What is it like styling top models like Heidi Klum and Lily Aldridge? Never a dull moment. On the way, I’m fistpumping, getting myself riled up. But I treat them like any other person. I never hound them down for pictures, but by the end they’re taking selfies with me.
You’re competing on a new show, American Beauty Star. I’m one of the top 12 celebrity stylists in the country competing for a title. It’s a new challenge for me to see how far I can be pushed... I can’t wait to see what I’m made of.
You also have a product line in the works… I’ve recognized that a lot of my clients are jetsetters. I’m coming out with an all-climate control line to take you from dry to humid weather.
What do you love about working in Miami? The city has loved me back the way I’ve loved it. Miami has its own style, vibe, pulse.
