PERSONAL SPACE
I had the g ood for tune of att ending a TEDx talk in Provincetown with my friend Todd last summer. Celebrated artist Oren Sherman was to speak on imagination—I was so excited to attend as I had met Oren on a photo shoot at his antique home in Truro years ago. His design work has been published almost a billion times, and he has had clients such as Visa, PepsiCo, Disney, and even Burger King.
Although he had a suc cessful career in the commercial world, Oren explained during his talk that he fel t he had lost his imagination. He decided t o escaped to Provincetown where his imagination was reignited when he star ted painting again. He says he credits this bold move—away from the corporate design world to this small artists’ haven—with reinvigorating his career. Today, Oren works in architecture with Elkus Manfredi, where he creates spaces that are connected and alive.
In this issue, we visit Or en and his husband, Rick Miller, in their Truro home on Cape Cod. I t’s very different from the 18 50s Greek Revival house he li ved in when I fir st met him. His new home is a 1 957 midcentury modern house filled with ic onic furnishings and per sonal collections that Ric k and Or en have collected over the 30 y ears they ’ve been t ogether. This home is ali ve and connected t o place. Local ar twork hangs alongside Oren’s own piec es of the c oastal landscape. The home is filled with w ellcurated per sonal moments.
We hope you enjoy this issue lled with contemporary designs from coast to coast and are inspired to create a home with your own coastal style.
Happy reading!
