Harry J. Weiss
Harry J Weiss, Jr., 99, of Orlando, FL, passed away October 17, 2018.
He was born and raised in Brodheadsville, PA. Harry graduated from Rider University and received Bachelors Degree in Business. While attending Rider University he enlisted in the newly formed Army Air Corp, went through pilot, navigator and bombardier training. He served in Europe and Africa during WW II where he was credited with the destruction of Rommel’s fuel and oil depot leading to the Nazi defeat in Africa. For this he was awarded the Silver Star. During his tour of duty he earned awards ….Air Metals, a Flying Cross and others. After leaving the military he finished his degree at Rider University. He later retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel.
He was happily married to Margaret (Betty) Settle on March 12, 1944. Together they had four children Harry (Sharon Weiss), Jill (Steve Caruso), Jan and Jay (deceased). Currently there are seven grand children and six great grand children. Harry had two brothers Broock and Doug (deceased), and a sister Evelyn (deceased).
Harry had a career in Accounting and was a CPA for Potter & Bower as a partner, Ernest & Young, with many clients in the Central Florida area. After retiring from accounting Harry became the President of Overstreet investments, retiring at the age of 91. He was a member of South Orlando Kiwanis Club and was one of the original members and a past vice-president.
He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, serving as a Deacon and an Elder. Harry had a passion for golf and was one of the Charter Members of the Rio Pinar Country Club. He served on the board for many years and served as President.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Red Cross would be appreciated.
