John Bowman Trumbo

-

John Bowman (“Bo”) Trumbo, a financial consultant with Trumbo Capital Management, died Wednesday, November 14, Winter Park, Florida. He was 62.

Bo was the son of the former Carolyn Nell Rich and Robert B. Trumbo, whose families came to Orlando in the 1920s. Bo was born on April 6, 1956 in Durham, North Carolina, during

Dr. Trumbo’s tenure as a resident in thoracic surgery at Duke University Hospital. After the Trumbos returned to Orlando in 1958, Bo attended local schools, graduating in 1974 from Edgewater High School. He then entered Tulane University, where he was awarded a degree in Economics in 1978. Bo was an athlete and student leader, holding several organizational positions while at Tulane, including Worthy Master of ATO fraternity. Through his lifetime, he was an active and loyal alumnus for both Edgewater High School and Tulane University and a strong proponent of the education, fellowship, and traditions that those institutions afforded.

Bo was unabashedly proud of his family. He adored his daughter and grandchildren and revered his parents. He took a vigorous part in the perennial debate with his four siblings as to whom was their “Mother’s favorite”, for which there were five disparate opinions. (Having been called home first, his loving sisters and brother now cede the title to him). He held a special admiration for his father, to whom he bore a strong resemblance in in appearance and temperament, recently saying, with wry humor, “Yes, I’m like him, and damn proud of it!” He was the favorite of his nieces and nephews, always ready to speak with them about their goals, encouraging selfreliance, and seldom missing a graduation or recognition program.

Bo’s life was a testimony to friendship. He knew no strangers. Few met him without experiencing the warmth of his smile, sense of humor, and rapt attention. His heart for friendship was large; the number of his friends legion; and the love and value that he brought to, and placed upon those friendships, incalculable. His laughter and that of his friends were heard in many places in Orlando, New Smyrna Beach, and elsewhere.

After a lifetime of nearly perfect health, Bo was diagnosed in late December of 2017 with glioblastoma multiforme. In the ensuing eleven months, Bo conducted himself with dignity and grace under the most trying of circumstances. The Trumbo family wish to thank his health providers and caretakers for their devotion and selflessness. And to Bo’s many friends we say: while the circumstances that took Bo’s life are tragic, the grief over his illness and the pain of his passing have been compromised by the love that you have showered upon him and upon us. We will be forever thankful.

Survivors include Bo’s beloved daughter, Katherine Trumbo Newberg (Todd); grandchildren, Francine Carolyn Newberg and Philip Harvey Newberg; sisters and brother, Carol T. Hansen (Jim), Robin Lynn Trumbo, Julie T. Northlake (John) and Robert B. Trumbo, Jr. (Wendi); and nine nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, November 27 at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 2499 N. Westmoreland Drive, Orlando, Florida 32804. Bloberger. Also missed multitude of friends. by
