Fuel late night adventures at Big Time Street Food Co.

- Lauren Delgado

Big Time Street Food Co. keeps its menu simple but tasty with bar fare that’s ideal late-night sustenance for your adventures in the Thornton Park neighborhood — or at home.

What I would try a second time

I need more burger-chorizo combinations in my life. Big Time’s Chorizo Montoya (prepare to satisfy) layered the peppery ground pork sausage, a smashed burger, oaxaca cheese, sliced avocado and grilled onion between burger buns. Just try not to create your own sad “Princess Bride” inspired line when eating this $7.99 burger.

What I didn’t like

Our ‘Holy Fried Chicken Sandwich’ ($7.99) looked like it went through the gates of hell before it arrived at our table. Despite the overly charred outside, the sandwich really only deserved to be in purgatory thanks to other tastier components such as the tender thigh meat inside and the spicysweet gochu-mayo I believe was made with gochujang, a Korean chili paste.

What I would put on Instagram Pile on the drinks and bar food onto an outside table at Burton’s Bar (of course buy a beverage from said pub) and snap away. Don’t do what we did and show up to this counter-service restaurant in the evening if photos are your goal.

Other eats

Fried cheese curds ($8.99)

seemed like a good way to start my meal on one visit. Battered and fried to a satisfying crunch, the cheese curds hail from Wisconsin. The restaurant goes big by pairing them with a tart, roasted tomato aioli.

A wrap seemed like a light entree to pair with those curds — until I caught sight of my packed, spicy (but not too spicy) cauliflower wrap ($8.99). The whole wheat tortilla is filled with salad greens, creamy hummus, buffalo cauliflower bites, avocado, and bean sprouts. I liked the mix of tangy flavors inside.

We couldn’t say no to loaded waffle fries, so the Buffalo Bird Fries ($9.99)
