Experience snow
Most people move to Florida to get away from the snow and cold winter weather. However, I love the snow. I snowboard, and that gives me a reason to look forward to the first snowfall every year.
Since it doesn’t snow here, I’m planning to head to the WinterClub, an indoor ski and snowboard hill in Winter Park. Their facility features two indoor “infinite” slopes, which is essentially a snow treadmill, and a ski simulator.
I’ve discovered there are also several communities that aim to bring “real” snow to visitors.
■ In Celebration, it will be “snowing” nightly through Dec. 31. Caroling, photos with Santa, horse-drawn carriage rides, train rides and ice skating are all a part of the festivities. Snow falls nightly at 6 p.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. at Celebration Town Center.
■ I also love day trips to Mount Dora, so I was delighted to find out that Donnelly Park is bringing a snow sledding opportunity to families on Dec. 8 from 5-9 p.m. for “Christmas in the Park.”
■ Winter Park is hosting its first “Snow in the Park” in Central Park on Dec. 14 from 6-9 p.m. and Dec. 15 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The event will feature ice slides into real snow, a build-asnowman contest, train rides, a toy maker’s workshop, s’mores and hot cocoa.
■ The RDV Ice Den’s annual “Snow Fest” is coming to Maitland on Dec. 15 from 2-6 p.m. For $20, attendees can ice skate, play in “real” snow, enjoy a snow slide, bounce houses and face painting.
