Two 1-person ‘Christmas Carol’ productions in store
The “Christmas Carol” season is in full swing across Central Florida, including the current production at Orlando Shakes.
But if you’re looking for a slightly different telling of the story of the Cratchitts, Scrooge and those ghosts – there are not one but two one-man versions of “A Christmas Carol” on offer.
Singer-actor Paul Q-pek will bring his “The Story of Scrooge” to Winter Springs on Friday. Q-pek was a founding member of 1990s Christian punk band One Bad Pig, which was nominated for five Dove Awards. He currently is a worship leader in Orlando.
For “The Story of Scrooge,” Q-pek uses Dickens’ own words in the script, which is peppered with 10 of his own original songs. Q-pek plays more than 30 characters in the show, with its emphasis on redemption.
“The Story of Scrooge” will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Willow Creek Church, 4725 E. Lake Drive, Winter Springs. Admission is free, though donations will be welcomed, with doors opening at 6 p.m. for complimentary refreshments. Find out more at storyofscrooge.com.
Meanwhile David McElroy also takes on dozens of roles in his adaptation of the Dickens classic, which he’ll be performing for the 21st year.
Marilyn McGinnis directs this one-man version, designed for children and adults, at the Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts, 1905 Kentucky Ave., Winter Park. Remaining showtimes are 3 p.m. today and 8 p.m. Monday.
Tickets are $20. On Monday, Dec. 17, those who work in the entertainment industry receive a 20 percent discount.
