UCF quarterback McKenzie Milton had a nerve test on his injured leg and has been strong enough to attend the Knights’ football practices ahead of the Fiesta Bowl.

Milton’s mother, Teresa, posted an update on the quarterback’s progress on her Twitter account Saturday, indicating he continues to improve following a catastrophic leg injury but needs more prayers during what is expected to be a challenging recovery process.

She posted on Twitter, “Good Morning Night Nation yesterday was a good day! McKenzie went through [an] EMG nerve conduction study. Painful but so hopeful. Recovery has started, the key of his upcoming surgery is the nerves. Please keep praying [specifically] for that.”

She went on to thank her son’s doctors at Jewett Orthopaedic and fans for their continued support.

McKenzie Milton, who won back-to-back American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors and finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting, suffered a dislocated knee during the Knights’ win over USF in the regular-season finale. He had three surgeries to repair nerve damage before leaving Tampa General Hospital.

A fourth surgery in Orlando went smoothly and he is slated to join the team in Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl.

The nerve damage Milton endured must be repaired before he can have surgery to repair his torn knee ligaments.

While he can travel to Arizona, Milton is staying in Orlando for the holidays. His mother posted on Instagram they were grateful to receive a care package filled with treats from their native Hawaii.

Milton also posted videos and pictures on his Instagram account chronicling his visits to UCF football practices.

UCF coach Josh Heupel and many of Milton’s teammates said they are glad to see him around the football facility, lifting the spirits of the team with his jokes and sharing his football insight.
