Uttley of Trinity Prep is swimmer of the year

The 2018 Orlando Sentinel boys swimming All-Sentinel Varsity team:

SWIMMER OF THE YEAR

Luke Uttley

Trinity Prep, Jr.

Buzz: The junior swam Florida’s fastest state finals 100-yard freestyle time (44.87 seconds) to win the Class 1A state title and also won the 200 free in 1:37.86. Uttley also recorded a 20.48 split in 200 free relay and 45.23 split in the 400 free relay.

know: Uttley and Seminole freshman Dawson Joyce became the first area swimmers to win both of their individual events at a state meet since Lake Highland Prep’s Sean Duggan accomplish­ed that feat in 2011.

ALL-AREA

Nathaniel Boccuzzo Lake Brantley, Jr.

Buzz: 4A state champ in the 100 breaststro­ke (56.88), third in 200 individual medley (1:52.08) and relay win.

Carlos Cartagena-Diaz Oviedo, Sr.

Buzz: Helped Lions win the 4A team title with second-place finish in 200 IM (1:52.03), third in 100 back (50.74) and relay work. Noah Evans Seminole, Jr.

Buzz: 4A state runner-up in 100 backstroke (50.67) was also fourth-placer in 200 IM (1:52.33). Dawson Joyce, Seminole, Fr.

Buzz: Epic 4-for-4 state meet performanc­e included 4A first places in 50 free (20.34) and 100 free (45.12), plus wins in 200 free and 200 medley relays.

Jhon Moncada

Lake Brantley, Sr. Buzz: 4A state champ in the 100-yard backstroke (50.47) and placed third in 100 butterfly (50.59).

Lucas De Oliveira Montverde Academy, Sr. Buzz: Swam seventh fastest 100 free finals time at state (45.56). in Lake Brantley, Jr. Buzz: 4A state runner-up in both the 50 free (20.73) and 100 free (45.42).

Hector Rodriguez Winter Park, Sr.

Buzz: Was region champ and 4A state runner-up in 100 breaststro­ke (57.12).

Jan Collazo Torres Trinity Prep, Sr.

Buzz: Swam to second in the 1A 50 free (20.38) and third in the 100 free (44.75 in prelim). Brandon Wegner Olympia, Sr.

Buzz: Had area’s best state meet diving points total (502.70) to place sevent in Class 4A.

Buzz: Surprise Class 4A state champs were first Greater Orlando title team since 1998.

2. Seminole

Buzz: Seminoles were second at state, 5 points ahead of Lake Brantley

3. Lake Brantley

Buzz: Patriots made it a 1-2-3 Seminole Athletic Conference sweep with third place in 4A.

4. Trinity Prep

Buzz: Saints were 1A, Region 2 champions and sixth at state.

5. Olympia

Buzz: Titans placed ninth in 4A state meet; fourth best for area teams.

6. Montverde Academy Buzz: Eagles were region runner-ups to Trinity Prep in 1A.
