Motorcycli­st killed in crash, FHP says

A Michigan man riding his motorcycle along County Road 44 in Lake County Friday evening was killed after crashing into a stopped car, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Donald Vandonkela­ar, 65, of Fruitport, Michigan, was riding eastbound on County Road 44 near Cypress Drive about 4:20 p.m. when he crashed into the back of a pickup truck that was stopped in an eastbound lane waiting to make a left turn, according to FHP.

Vandonkela­ar was ejected off his motorcycle, troopers said. He was taken to AdventHeal­th Waterman in Tavares, where he died. FHP said he was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the 2001 Chevy pickup, 44-year-old Melody Lewis, of Leesburg, was not injured, according to FHP.
