Pro Bowler misses another practice; Colts’ Luck still out

The Antonio watch continues.

For the second straight day, the Raiders wide receiver was nowhere to be seen Saturday during the seventh practice of training camp.

The Raiders have not specified an injury, with a San Jose Mercury News source indicating as camp opened Brown would be out “probably a week” after starting on the non-football injury list. Brown was removed from the NFI last Sunday. He participated in a walkthrough, and two days later, ran some pass routes against defenders in drills before calling it a day.

ESPN reported Saturday that Brown was scheduled to see a foot specialist Saturday.

The injury is not believed to be long term, the source said.

The only clue about what ails Brown was a sincedeleted Instagram post which showed two badly blistered feet. Considering Brown wasn’t with his teammates on the field, it’s conceivable he’s getting checked out by a specialist.

Quarterback Derek Carr has no choice but to wait.

“We wish the healing process of whatever is going on will be fast,” Carr said. “We want it to be fast, but at the same time you can’t rush things for training camp when you know you have a season and hopefully a playoff run to think about, right?

“The trainers know way more than any of the players know. We just know that when he does show up, we can’t wait and we’ll welcome him with open arms.

“Hopefully he’s healthy and just ready to hit running.”

The Raiders Brown practice Sunday, take Monday off, then host joint practices Tuesday and Wednesday with the Rams.

Luck out another week: Colts coach Frank Reich announced that quarterback Andrew Luck will remain off the practice field due to a left calf injury will last at least another week.

Luck missed the Colts’ OTAs and minicamp and has only practiced three days in training camp since originally injuring his calf back in April. He approached the Colts on their off day Monday and said he wanted to stop practicing until he felt his calf was 100%.

Luck has been a participant in the team’s walkthroughs, where he’s taken most if not every one of the snaps in an attempt to stay up to speed with the offense. He has also been working with throwing coach Tom House.

“I feel good about where we’re at,” Reich said. “Just ramping it up from last week. That was so productive last week that we feel we’re on the right track.

“When (Luck) has his throwing sessions, there is some movement in there and we are progressing in that.”

The Colts already have ruled Luck out of the Aug. 8 preseason game against the Bills in Buffalo, N.Y. The team would like for him to get some snaps in a preseason game, but there’s no rush to get him back on the field. The Colts open the season on the road Sept. 7 against the Chargers.

The Colts are extra cautious with Luck after he missed the 2017 season with a right shoulder injury.

Jacoby Brissett is working with the first unit in Luck’s absence.

“Make no mistake, Andrew is driving the truck here. He knows how he feels,” Reich said. “He knows best what is going to get him ready.”
