Wheel at Icon Park to reopen June 3
The Wheel at Icon Park, the 400-foot observation wheel on Orlando’s International Drive, will reopen on June 3, it was announced Friday afternoon. It’s coming back from its coronavirus-prompted shutdown with a package deal that includes nearby attractions.
As a health and safety precaution, each party will have their own capsules aboard the attraction, and each unit will be disinfected after each round. Icon Park also has instituted social-distancing guides to help visitors keep CDCapproved spacing between each another.
The attraction opened five years ago under the name of Orlando Eye. It is known for its views of IDrive and Orange County attractions, downtown Orlando and other natural Florida vistas. It sometimes presents color-coordinated light shows for special occasions.
The shopping/dining/ entertainment complex is introducing the Icon Park Play Pass, which will sell for $55 per person for Florida, Georgia and Alabama residents beginning June 3. (Nonresidents can buy the pass for $65.)
The package includes a trip on the Wheel, entry to the neighboring Madame Tussauds Orlando and Sea Life Orlando Aquarium attractions, experiences aboard the swinging Orlando Starflyer, Pearl Express Train and inside the 7D Dark Ride Adventure.
In addition, the Play Pass will activate discounts at Icon Park restaurants such as Tin Roof, Sugar Factory and Tapa Toro and give access to “all-day happy hour” at Lawn Bar, Deck Bar and
Wheelhouse Bar. It will also carry deals for retailers there such as Sunglass Boutique, Flip Flop Shop and others. The pass includes a $5 Play Card from Arcade City.
The deal will be sold through Aug. 31, and it’s valid for 30 days from the date of purchase. Proof of residency is required.
