Guy Fieri’s Chicken Guy landing in Winter Park late this summer
Guy Fieri’s Chicken Guy restaurant is expected to open in a former Steak ‘n Shake in Winter Park late this summer.
A banner outside the closed restaurant at 818 S. Orlando Ave. on Monday featured the Chicken Guy logo and said the restaurant is “hatching soon.”
Chicken Guy’s other Central Florida location, a collaboration between Food Network star Fieri and Orlando restaurateur Robert Earl, opened in 2018 on the ground floor of Earl’s Planet Hollywood at Disney Springs.
“It’s always such a pleasure to be able to work with Guy on Chicken Guy! ventures, and I’m beyond pleased to open a location in Winter Park,” Earl said in a news release.
The 3,500-square-foot Winter Park restaurant will seat 80 people inside and 12 outside and also have a drive-through, according to the release. The parking lot will have dedicated spaces for delivery app drivers and customers who order online.
The menu features grilled or fried chicken tenders that are served in sandwiches, on skewers or in salad bowls. There are 22 sauces. Sides include fries, fried pickles and “Mac Daddy Mac ‘n Cheese.”
Dessert offerings include the “Cinnamon Apple,” with vanilla soft serve ice cream covered in Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Apple Jacks cereal as well as the “Triple Double Ice Cream Treat” with triple chocolate and double-mint.
The chain has other restaurants in Miami, FedEx Field in Maryland, and Levis Stadium in California. There are also three more stores listed on its website as “hatching soon” outside the Orlando area.
The Steak ‘n Shake closed in 2019 as that company looked for franchisees to take over more than 100 stores across the country.
Nearby fans can currently order a Chicken Guy classic sandwich on Uber Eats through the delivery-only Guy Fieri’s Flavortown Kitchen.
That virtual restaurant is also a collaboration between Earl and Fieri, and operates out of Earl’s Buca di Beppo Italian restaurant in Maitland as well as other locations across Orlando and the country.
New Bakery to serve croissant creations
A bakery serving croissant waffles and croissant muffins is set to open in Orlando’s Audubon Park neighborhood this summer.
Sugar Dough Bakehouse is expected to take over the 1,000-square-foot space that formerly held the Blue Bird Bake Shop at 3122 Corrine Drive, according to a news release.
The new spot is from the owners of Light on the Sugar, husband-and-wife Yixi Qiu and Wen Pan. That Aloma Avenue bakery near Winter Park serves cream puffs and Japanese cheesecakes.
They have partnered with brothers and Bento Asian Kitchen + Sushi chain founders Johnny and Jimmy Tung.
Sugar Dough’s offerings will include croissant muffins, croissant waffles, creamfilled croissants, Japanese milk bread and French-style custard made from sous vide egg called le flan, the release said.
It will be next to the new location of a chef ’s tasting concept Foreigner, a partnership between chef Bruno Fonseca and the Tung brothers.
