‘Intersection’ placed on hiatus as host Matthew Peddie exits
“Intersection” host Matthew Peddie has announced that he will be leaving the show and his position with NPR affiliates 90.7 WMFE and 89.5 WMFV on March 25. His last episode will air on March 24 at noon and 9 p.m.
On Twitter Peddie said, “This wasn’t an easy decision: it’s a great group of journalists here and it’s been a true privilege to work alongside them covering some of the most challenging news stories of the last 10 years.”
In April, Peddie will join the team at WUSF as the host of their weekly public affairs show “Florida Matters.”
In the wake of Peddie’s departure, WMFE and WMFV released a statement saying that “Intersection” will be placed on hiatus indefinitely while the stations “take the opportunity to reimagine how best to serve Central Florida with independent, trustworthy journalism and information during these
changing times.”
Beginning on March 31, “The Takeaway” will air on Thursdays at noon and 9 p.m. on WMFE and WMFV. This national program is hosted by Melissa HarrisPerry and currently airs during the same time slots on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
In a statement, WMFE and WMFV president and general manager Judith Smelser said, “Matt has been a dedicated and engaged part of the WMFE team for the past decade, and we wish him all the best
in his next chapter at our sister station at the other end of I-4.
“He will be sorely missed by his colleagues here, but we are excited about the opportunity to envision the next evolution of our public service journalism mission in Central Florida,” she added.
