Man killed on Florida’s Turnpike

A 54-year-old man was hit by a vehicle early Saturday morning after walking into northbound lanes on Florida’s Turnpike, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The Iowa man was traveling in the passenger’s seat of a vehicle going southbound on the Turnpike that had stopped on the shoulder, according to the FHP report.

The man got out of his vehicle and ran across the southbound lanes and into the northbound lanes when a 24-year-old man from Florida struck him with his vehicle around 1:30 a.m., the report said. The victim was pronounced dead on scene.

The incident that occurred near mile marker 217 in Osceola County is still under investigat­ion.
