It was another stormy Friday night for high school football, delaying the start of almost all of the regular season openers in the Orlando area. But weather cleared, play resumed and it turned out to be an eventful Week 1 to kick off the 2022 season.

Seminole spank Rams

Seminole, the No. 1 team in the preseason Sentinel Super 16 rankings, got scoring from eight players and steamrollered Sarasota Riverview 48-0. The Seminoles scored on the ground, through the air, on defense and with special teams.

Senior quarterback Luke Rucker completed 10 of 13 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns. Michael Key caught one TD pass and ran for another. Justin Rosado returned a punt 38 yards for a TD and Tristan Hunter had a 74-yard pick-six score on an interception.

Seminole plays at area No. 2 Kissimmee Osceola on Friday.

The Kowboys won 14-5 against visiting Treasure Coast. The Titans took a 3-0 lead on their first possession before Osceola sophomore Taevion Swint took the ensuing kickoff, broke two tackles at the 30, and raced down the left sideline for an 85-yard touchdown return.

After a safety made the score 7-5 Osceola generated its only scoring drive of the game. Swint scored from a yard out for a 14-5 lead at the 2:48 mark of the second quarter and the game was scoreless the rest of the way.

Edgewater beats Bishop Moore

Edgewater extended its win streak in the Battle of College Park rivalry to four in a row with a 22-7 victory over Bishop Moore.

“When I got here, Bishop Moore had won five in a row. So for the boys to be able to keep that Battle of College Park trophy is huge,” Edgewater coach Cameron Duke said.

Edgewater senior running back and Texas commit CJ Baxter, the No. 1 prospect on the Sentinel Super 60 list, rushed for 201 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown the second time he touched the ball.

Bishop Moore head coach Matt Hedrick’s son, Heath, scored the lone touchdown for the Hornets.

Special security precautions and extra law enforcement officers were in place after an anonymous social media message that seemed threatening was posted during the week.

The Braves trailed 12-0 and played most of the game without star receiver Aiden Mizell, who suffered a knee injury that coach Andy Johnson said was not major.
