Enzian hosts ‘Bowie Week’ screenings to celebrate release of ‘Moonage Daydream’
Enzian is celebrating the life and legacy of David Bowie next month with screenings of some of the performers’ most famous films, including “Labyrinth,” “The Hunger,” “The Man Who Fell to Earth” and “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence” during a special “Bowie Week” event kicking off Sept. 9.
Screenings will take place through Sept. 15, with multiple showtimes for each film available on different days of the week. Tickets are available for all films in this series and are $12.50 per screening for adults, $11 for students for most showtimes.
“Bowie Week, and our other tribute weeks throughout the year, are such a great way to binge classic cinema! A huge part of what we do at Enzian is educate the community about the history of film as an art form, while also bringing brand-new Indie cinema to the big screen. Bowie Week is the perfect example of our mission to entertain, inspire, educate and connect the community through film,” said Deanna Tiedtke, director of public relations and development at Enzian.
The weeklong event is designed to celebrate the release of “Moonage
Daydream,” director Brett Morgen’s experimental new film that “illuminates the life and genius of David Bowie, one of the most prolific and influential artists of our time,” with never-before-seen footage, performances and music. The film is unique as it is guided by Bowie’s own narration and is the first officially sanctioned film to be made about his life.
After the film’s world premiere earlier this year at Cannes, Morgen revealed in an interview that the film took five years to make, with Morgen taking two years just to screen through the five million assets the filmmaker was given access to by the Bowie estate.
“Moonage Daydream” opens at Enzian Sept. 23, but tickets are not available yet.
Tickets for large-format screenings of “Moonage Daydream,” which will get the jump on regular screenings with an early release on Sept. 12 are available now for the AMC Altamonte Mall 18 & IMAX, which is the only local theater currently listed as hosting a screening of this new film on its early release date. Tickets are $22 and attendees will get a free film poster.
