Hurricanes land St. Thomas Aquinas star WR Robinson

- By Adam Lichtenstein

FORT LAUDERDALE — Chance Robinson has been a Hurricanes fan for a long time, and now he will have the chance to put on the uniform himself.

Robinson, a star wide receiver for Fort Lauderdale powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas, committed to Miami after UM’s spring game on Friday night.

“Nothing really felt like how I felt when I was here,” Robinson said. “I’ve been here multiple days throughout the week. It’s always love. It’s always the same thing. On the phone, I come in person, there’s nothing different. I just love it here. I just love the city. I’ve been a fan since I was a kid. It’s been a dream.”

Although Miami had a lot of coaching turnover in the offseason, Robinson said he quickly got to know new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson and new wide receivers coach Kevin Beard.

“They hit me up since the day they got the job,” Robinson said. “That means so much to me. I was a priority for them right away, as soon as they got it.”

The St. Thomas Aquinas star got a look at his potential future Friday night, taking in the Hurricanes’ spring game at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.

“I’m watching the offense today; they’re throwing it,” Robinson said. “The people are making plays. [Nathaniel Joseph] made a big touchdown. They’re playing freshmen. Everybody’s making plays. I’m going to come in ready to work and come in ready to be that guy for them.”

Robinson, a four-star prospect, picked UM over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and more. He is listed as the No. 23 wide receiver and No. 144 player in the 2024 class by 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Robinson starred for the Raiders as a junior, helping lead St. Thomas to the Class 3M state title. He had 29 catches for 540 yards and 13 touchdowns. He was a firstteam All-County selection in 2022.

“I know I can come in and put on for my city,” Robinson said. “I love it here. I was in a ‘Canes store today and kids just coming up to me. I just can’t beat that. Nowhere else felt like home . ... This is where I want to be.”

Robinson said he does plan to still take official visits to Auburn and Penn State, but he also plans to take an official visit to UM. Recruits were previously limited to five official visits, but the NCAA changed its rules and now allows recruits to take as many official visits as they want (though they can only take one official visit to each school).

Robinson is the third commit in Miami’s 2024 class, joining quarterback Judd Anderson and kicker Abram Murray. Robinson said he has already built a relationship with Anderson.

“I’m ready to turn this thing around and be a part of something big here,” Robinson said. “I’m going to get with him, keep talking to him, and we’re going to keep building this relationship.”
