Mo­tor­cy­clist killed in crash, FHP says

A Michi­gan man rid­ing his mo­tor­cy­cle along County Road 44 in Lake County Fri­day evening was killed after crash­ing into a stopped car, the Florida High­way Pa­trol said.

Don­ald Van­donke­laar, 65, of Fruit­port, Michi­gan, was rid­ing east­bound on County Road 44 near Cy­press Drive about 4:20 p.m. when he crashed into the back of a pickup truck that was stopped in an east­bound lane wait­ing to make a left turn, ac­cord­ing to FHP.

Van­donke­laar was ejected off his mo­tor­cy­cle, troop­ers said. He was taken to Ad­ven­tHealth Water­man in Tavares, where he died. FHP said he was not wear­ing a hel­met.

The driver of the 2001 Chevy pickup, 44-year-old Melody Lewis, of Lees­burg, was not in­jured, ac­cord­ing to FHP.
