Hagerty moving on in 8A-2

Chris Elander pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts to pace Hagerty to a 6-1 victory over Lake Brantley in a Class 8A, District 2 baseball game at Sanford Memorial Stadium.

Elander also sparked the offense, doubling with a run batted in.

“Every win in the post season is a good win,” Hagerty coach Jered Goodwin said. “We were able to get a couple two-out hits.”

Clay Middleton added two hits and two RBIS for the Huskies (21-5). Zach Krider went 1-for-3 with a run batted in for Lake Brantley (14-12).

“Lake Brantley was really good today,” Goodwin said. “Their pitcher was good. It was a tough game and either team could have won.”

In other 8A-2 action,seminole defeated Lyman 6-3 and Deland bested Lake Mary 4-0.

Wednesday’s games will feature Spruce Creek vs. Seminole at 4 p.m., followed by Hagerty and Deland at 7.

University rolls

Juan Garcia came up with a huge performanc­e to power Orlando University to an 11-1 victory over Colonial in an 8A-5 baseball game.

Garcia pitched a complete game for the Cougars (11-14), striking out five. He added two hits, two RBIS and a run scored at the plate. Ish Perez added two hits including a triple and two stolen bases.

Boone coasts

Bailey Florin threw for three scores and added three intercepti­ons to lead Boone to a 40-0 victory over Winter Park in a District 8 girls flag football game.

She returned one intercepti­on for a score for the Braves (12-0).

Kyndal Skersick notched two scoring receptions.
