Citizens chief blasts media reports
Responding to charges of improprieties at Citizens Property Insurance Corp., the state-backed insurer’s chief executive lashed out Tuesday at media coverage of the unfolding drama, calling it inaccurate and misleading. Speaking in Tallahassee to the company’s governing board, President and Chief Executive Officer Barry Gilway acknowledged that a handful of supervisors in separate incidents behaved inappropriately, but others face allegations that have been disproved or remain unsubstantiated, he said. Reports of misappropriations, sexual harassment and big severance packages from 2004-10 led Gov. Rick Scott last week to have his inspector general investigate Citizens.
