Wycliffe’s commitment to charity gets high marks in Forbes report
Orlando-based Wycliffe Bible Translators, the largest Scripture translation organization in the world, is ranked the 70th- largest charity in the United States in an annual Forbes report, Wycliffe announced.
In 2011, it ranked 108th overall.
Wycliffe is listed as the third-largest religious charity based on private support, Forbes said. The magazine also analyzes spending, and awarded Wycliffe a fundraising- efficiency score of 89 percent, a statistic that shows the amount of contributions left after subtracting the cost of getting them.
“Wycliffe USA’s growth in the last year highlights God’s gracious provision as we strive to launch Scripture translation projects for every people group without access to God’s Word in their heart language,” said Bob Creson, president and CEO of Wycliffe. “There are still nearly 2,000 languages in need of a Bible translation program, so our work is far from done.”
Wycliffe supplies linguists, translators and literacy workers to bring Scripture and critical health information to people worldwide in the language they understand best. In many cases, linguists are saving languages that otherwise may not survive.
In addition to its Forbes ranking, charity watchdogs in recent assessments favorably reviewed Wycliffe Bible Translators.
GuideStar, a leading source of nonprofit information, awarded Wycliffe its GuideStar Exchange Seal, demonstrating Wycl iffe’s commitment to transparency.
In its most recent analysis, MinistryWatch.com named Wycliffe a Shining Light “Top 30” Exemplary Ministry and gave Wycliffe an “A” grade for transparency.
Founded in 1942, Wycliffe Bible Translators exists to make the Bible accessible to all people in the language and form that is most meaningful to them. Wycliffe oversees more than 7,000 translators, linguists, educators and administrators in 99 countries.
