Golden’s wife would cry if they left

-

CORAL GABLES — In the first few days of Miami’s offeseason, coach Al Golden met with the majority of his players. He likes their energy and isn’t expecting any defections. Golden also plans on keeping his coaching staff in tact for a second straight year while shooting down any rumors linking him to other jobs.

“I know [my wife] would cry if I said we’re moving out of town,” Golden said.

In terms of players, Golden said LB Eddie Johnson should be back with the Hurricanes after finishing the season on suspension for two of the last three games.

“He’s finishing his exams and classes and papers right now,” Golden said. “We’re asking him to concentrate on that, but I expect fully that he’ll be back with us.”

RB Duke Johnson became the first Hurricane to be named ACCrookie of the year Tuesday. His 947 rushing yards broke Clinton Portis’ 13-year old freshman rushing record, and he led the ACCin kickoff return average.

The Miami basketball team thought it would see a short-handed Michigan State team this evening, but that might be changing. Injured starters Gary Harris (shoulder) and Travis Trice (concussion) are healing faster than expected, according to multiple reports from East Lansing. Harris’ shoulder dislocated a week ago, but he told mlive.com that he’s surprised with his recovery. Trice went down with a concussion in the season-opener against Connecticut — the No. 13 Spartans’ last loss before winning their last six.
