Programming director named to Dr. Phillips Center post

-

The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts announced Wednesday that it has appointed Judy Joseph vice president of programming and education.

That role is important to Orlando arts fans: She’ll direct the kind of shows the downtown center will host after it opens in 2014. Joseph also will be responsible for planning the grandopening events.

A 20-year programming veteran, Joseph previously served as vice president of programming for the David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa. There, she was responsible for Broadway, dance, music and other events. Joseph presented a diverse range of artists and art forms from around the world, also collaborating with national and local arts organizations.

In Tampa, she managed about $20 million in programming revenue from five venues.

Before that position, Joseph was director of programming and production for the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale.

“From her ability to generate multimillion- dollar programming revenues across multiple venues to the unique insight she offers as an industry veteran, Judy brings dynamic programming experience to the center,” said Dr. Phillips Center President Kathy Ramsberger. “She will be a vital component of our executive team.”

Revenue from events programmed by the center will be crucial to supporting the center’s operating costs.
