Report: Fisher on Auburn’s short list
TALLAHASSEE — Florida State’s football power structure appears to be crumbling.
One day after Seminoles defensive coordinator Mark Stoops accepted a position as Kentucky’s newhead coach, a news report and other Internet chatter asserts that he may not be the only one leaving town in the coming weeks.
AL.comreportedWednesdayFSUcoachJimboFisheris a candidate under serious consideration for the Auburn head-coaching vacancy. According to the website, Fisher is one of three coaches being considered for the spot that opened after Gene Chizik was fired during the weekend.
Sources close to the situation say Fisher “would listen” if Auburn aggressively approached him, the website reported. As he has since the rumors began circulating weeks ago, Fisher said he is comfortable at FSU and asserts he isn’t shopping for a new job.
Seminoles tight-ends coach and offensive coordinator James Coley, though, may be. Online reports have suggested Coley may follow Stoops to Kentucky.
While the off-field coaching dramacontinued playing out, the Seminoles have still been raking in the accolades.
Junior DE Bjoern Werner learned Wednesday that he had been named the ACC’s defensive player of the year following his 13-sack regular season. Werner also earned first-team All-America honors from the American Football Coaches’ Association.
