UF earns 82-49 win over Marquette

-

GAINESVILLE — The No. 7 Florida Gators continued to make mincemeat of a highly regarded nonconference schedule. The latest victim was Marquette. UFrolled to 82-49 win over Marquette Thursday night. The rematch of Florida’s 68-58 win over Marquette in the 2012 Sweet 16 lacked drama. The Gators (6-0) pulled away midway through the first half and never looked back.

Six days after they combined for 41 points, guards Kenny Boynton and Scottie Wilbekin did not score during the first half and finished with just 10 combined points on 4-of-17 shooting.

But the Gators’ depth and balance were too much for Marquette, which suffered its worst loss since a 99-52 defeat on Jan. 26, 2005, at Louisville.

Five players finished in double figures, led by Tampa freshman wing Michael Frazier with 17 points. Frazier hit back-to-back 3s late in the first half to push the lead to 38-22 before Marquette the lead to 14 points by intermission.

On Tuesday, C Patric Young touted the team’s ability to find points from many sources.

Donovan told the school’s website he had removed Young from the starting lineup because he had shown a bad attitude in practice. Wilbekin, who had 17 points off the bench last Friday against UCF, replaced Young.

Young would respond to his benching with10 points, 10 rebounds and three spectacular blocked shots.
