Solar Bears face uphill climb for postseason berth in 1st season

Fifteen games. That is what remains for the Orlando Solar Bears to make a final push for the playoffs in the ECHL’s regular season.

It won’t be easy for the Solar Bears (25-27-2-3), a first-year franchise that will host the Reading Royals at 7 tonight. A look at their prospects:

Playoff position

The Solar Bears sit 12th in the14-team Eastern Conference, 11 points behind three teams for the eighth and final playoff berth. They are tied with the Wheeling Nailers with 55 points, but Orlando is listed 12th in the conference, based on winning percentage.

The Solar Bears have seven games left at Amway Center. One of the teams tied for the East’s eighth playoff spot is Florida, which Orlando will face for its final four games.
