’Noles set to hire tight ends coach
TALLAHASSEE — At long last, Florida State is expected to round out its offseason coaching hires in the coming days as former Mississippi State assistant and one-time Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster will reportedly join the staff to coach tight ends.
His anticipated hire was reported Friday afternoon by Rivals.com FSU affiliate Warchant.com. He will become the seventh assistant coach hired by head coach Jimbo Fisher since the middle of December, filling the sixth and final vacant position.
The Seminoles had wrapped up five of the six open slots before Signing Day earlier this month, but after tight ends coach Billy Napier left for Alabama 22 days after signing his contract, they were forced to replace him, too.
FSUwill also soon be adding former Tennessee assistant Jay Graham as its new running backs coach. With the newest hires, new coach Randy Sanders — Graham’s position coach when he was a running back at Tennessee in the mid-1990s — will reportedly move from running backs to coaching Seminoles quarterbacks.
The school has not yet made an official announcement about Graham’s and Brewster’s impending hires.
In addition to recently working at Mississippi State and Minnesota, he spent five years in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos.
Brewster also replaces former tight ends coach and offensive coordinator James Coley, who left last month to serve as Miami’s offensive coordinator.
