UM hires new compliance director
CORAL GABLES — Perhaps the most important noncoaching job outside of the athletics director was filled Wednesday at UM.
Craig Anderson was named associate athletics director for compliance just a week after the school was served with its official NCAA notice of allegations from the Nevin Shapiro scandal. Anderson comes to Miami after two years as NC State’s assistant AD for compliance. He was also the University of Virginia’s compliance director from 2007-10 and the assistant at UNLV from 2006-07.
Anderson will be in charge of monitoring some of the areas that were troublesome in the past at Miami. Duties include making sure UM athletes and coaches comply with NCAA rules. He’ll also conduct NCAA rules education for coaches, staff, boosters and the general public. Anderson replaces David Reed, who in November left UMfor the same job at the University of Kansas.
P Dalton Botts was the only Miami representative on the 52-member ACC all-academic team announced Wednesday. Duke had 21 selections, with Clemson’s six coming in second.
The UM women basketball team close out the home season with its biggest game of the year. It plays No. 4 Duke at 7 p.m. Thursday in the BankUnited Center. UM lost 82-43 on Jan. 31 in Durham, but a win would be huge toward an NCAA application. It includes a No. 54 RPI rating andan early-season winoverPennState. It’ll also be the final home game for starters Stefanie Yderstrom, Morgan Stroman and Pepper Wilson.
