Amotto for the right begins ‘all for1. . .’

-

The letter to the editor from Steve Wills on Sunday is symptomatic of the issue that many have with the tea party and the Republican Party in general.

They bask on their soapbox and proclaim loudly that they are the only ones who want to reduce spending and to have a balanced budget.

I would like to send a news flash to Wills and his ilk: Almost everyone would like these same things. The difference is that it is apparent that the right side of our country believes all of the cuts should come on the backs of the poor, the sick, the elderly and the nonconnected. The right does not want to be inconvenienced in any way and will scream “socialism” at anyone who even mentions the idea of those on the right having to give up something.

Whatever happened to shared sacrifice? Since the mission of those on the right is to stop any sign of progress for the current administration and to not give up anything, I would like to donate a recycled motto for them: “All for one — as long as it’s for me!”

Women should write on mastectomies

Regarding The Front Burner: “Double mastectomy: Best option?” in the Oct. 18 Sentinel: There were two male opinions with a contribution from Dr. Olga Ivanov. What part of the column was hers?

Basically, once again men dis- cuss, decide and then impart their “wisdom” regarding what is best for women. Could the Orlando Sentinel have invited female plastic surgeons or female doctors to speak on what should be a personal decision? It isn’t the subject matter that offends me, just whohad a say in it and somewhere in there a woman injects something.

While I know that males do perform specialized care for women, something this important should be directed in an open discussion to women for women by women. After all, a woman cannot discuss castration with complete and total understanding, can she?

Ratings for plays

Kudos to Matthew J. Palm on his column “Howlowdoes it go?” in Friday’s Sentinel.

Unlike movies, theater and plays do not have a rating system, so you find out a performance is distasteful after you buy the $75-plus ticket. Even in their reviews, critics seldom mention whether a show is adult rated.

We have stopped going to local college and theater plays unless we know the play because of this. We need a rating system for theater and plays just like the movies, and, more critics like Palm.

Whyis he shocked?

I’m shocked that many in the Obama administration and other Democrats are saying that Republicans contributed to the Obamacare website-debut fiasco.

I’m shocked because they didn’t include George W. Bush.
