Jacobs slated to bolster Gators’ line

-

GAINESVILLE — The Gators’ defensive line should get some much-needed help after Florida allowed 500 yards at Missouri — the most against UF since the 2007 season.

Coach Will Muschamp said senior DT Damien Jacobs (head injury) is expected to return to practice Tuesday and should play Saturday against Georgia.

Jacobs was injured during a pile-up on Oct. 12 at LSU, leaving Florida with just two experienced tackles ( Leon Orr and Darious Cummings) during a 36-17 loss at Mizzou. The Tigers rushed for 205 yards, including 136 from Henry Josey — the most by one player against the Gators during Muschamp’s three seasons.

Meanwhile, starting OLB Ronald Powell remains questionable with an ankle injury he suffered at LSU. Powell is expected to practice no later than Wednesday, but he might not be ready to face Georgia.

Muschamp said LB Darrin Kitchens, Powell’s backup, is unlikely to play because of a shoulder injury.

The Florida Gators’ Nov. 9 matchup with Vanderbilt will kick off at noon in the Swamp.

The Gators have won 22 straight meetings against the Commodores.

However, under third-year coach James Franklin, Vanderbilt nolonger is a SECpushover. Theschool posted 15 wins the past two seasons, including nine victories in 2012.

Next game: vs. Georgia in Jacksonville, Saturday at 3:30 p.m. CBS
