Receiver to play despite hand injury
TALLAHASSEE — Florida State WR Kelvin Benjamin is not expected to miss any time after hurting his hand against NC State.
Benjamin (6-5, 234), normally a reliable target, dropped several passes against the Wolfpack, including one that was intercepted.
“He got the helmet right on the bone part of his hand, which causes immediate pain,” FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said. “It really didn’t swell all that badly. …They just wanted to check it out, make sure they X-rayed it, and it was fine.”
Benjamin, after struggling to find consistency as a redshirt freshman, has been one of FSU’s most improved players this season.
He has 23 receptions for 430 yards and five touchdowns, and has emerged as one of quarterback Jameis Winston’s favorite targets.
Despite his hand bruise and playing in just a little more than a half, Benjamin had three receptions for 69 yards and a score against NC State.
FSU junior RB James Wilder Jr. returned to practice Monday after missing last week with a concussion.
ESPN/ABC used a six-day option on the Seminoles’ Nov. 9th game at Wake Forest, meaning a game time will not be announced until this weekend.
Winston was named the ACC’s rookie of the week after accumulating 292 passing yards and three touchdowns against NC State. It is the fifth time he won the award.
