What’s so hard about slowing and stopping?

-

All this fuss over the cameras that catch red-light runners. The point is to stop when the light turns red. The amber light is to warn you to slow down and prepare to stop.

Don’t gun your gas to try and beat the light. Just obey the traffic lights and stop.

Why would anyone have to slam on his brakes as he approaches a traffic light? I wonder how many people actually read the traffic laws. There are a few good points that we all need to remember. For heaven’s sake, just

Athletic shoes are the best health insurance

The importance of health insurance seems to focus heavily on the money. Insurance companies are so concerned with their fiinancial profits that they terrify the public with predictions of horrific circumstances unless their policies are purchased.

Of course, it’s true that some people benefit from insurance, even through it is a gamble from any standpoint. However, the very best health insurance for most folks is the investment in a good pair of athletic shoes or in a gym membership, or both. This kind of insurance, when used, guarantees a measure of prevention of a whole range of physical maladies.

That word “prevention” is glaringly missing from any discussion regarding health coverage. Insurance purveyors, pharmaceutical companies and some doctors dare not suggest this approach. Their mantra is a cured patient is no longer a paying customer.

SeaWorld’s a gem — especially at holiday

One of the greatest gems in Central Florida is SeaWorld. This is especially true of the celebration of Christmas.

We attended “O Wondrous Night: The Greatest Story Never Told” for the third consecutive year. Added to that magnificent production are the beautiful lights of the season. The total experience of SeaWorld at Christmas made for inspirational focus on the real meaning of Christmas.

However, some misguided, ne’er-do-wells are attempting to cast a shadow of fear over SeaWorld. What I want to say to them is to get a life. Anything can be taken out of context to become a pretext for any malevolent agenda one might have. The unfounded accusations against SeaWorld come from a “documentary.”

Just because someone calls a production a documentary does not mean that it is fact.

Bravo for SeaWorld. At least some of us appreciate its high standards of animal care.

Graduating with debt just isn’t very smart

The Sentinel’s Dec. 19 editorial “Ease financial pressure on university graduates” sums up the mentality of those who graduate owing money that was spent to attain a college degree.

What employer in his right mind would want to hire someone who is that stupid? Stupidity is not as rare as one would think. I do not have a college degree, and always owned my own business. My younger brother has a college degree, which he paid for by working a daytime job and attending college at night. He graduated without any debt.

The idea that the state of Florida, which takes taxes from wage earners, will use those tax dollars to help people pay for a college degree is just government stealing from wage earners to enable stupid people.
