Vucevic’s contract extension finalized

-

The Orlando Magic and center Nik Vucevic on Thursday finalized a fouryear contract extension that will run through the 2018-19 season.

Over his four new seasons, Vucevic can earn $53 million — a figure that will become more friendly to the Magic once the revenue from the NBA’s new national television agreement inflates the annual salary-cap figure.

Vucevic’s extension does not include any opt-out clause that would enable Vucevic to become a free agent before the summer of 2019.

Vucevic, who turned 24 years old today, has averaged 13.6 points and 11.5 rebounds per game during his two seasons with Orlando.

“I just want to keep working, keep getting better, and I feel like with the amount of work I put in, I’m only going to get better as I get older and I get more e x p e r i e n c e ,” Vu c e v i c said Wednesday.

“I’ve been able to personally put up big numbers on different nights, but at the end of the day, those numbers don’t matter so much if you don’t really win. Everything ’s better when you win. That’s my main priority: really to make this team a winning team.

“It’s not going to be easy. It’s not going to just happen overnight. It takes time. It takes work and a lot of dedication, but I think all the guys are willing to put the time in and the work necessary to do that. I think we have the talent. We have the pieces. We just have to stay patient, make it work and we’ll be all right.” my wing for that one year to kind of guide through the rookie transition part of coming into this league.”

Oladipo remains sidelined by a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

Oladipo suffered the injury on Oct. 3 and hasn’t played this preseason.
