Drivers with overdue traffic fines in Orange, Osceola and Lake counties could be in luck thanks to Operation Green Light.

The initiative is offering residents the opportunity to save 40 percent on collection fees while paying off overdue tickets, court costs and fees April 17 and 18.

County officials said the incentive will help residents who have suspended licenses due to overdue tickets and fines. They said the 40 percent discount could amount to hundreds of dollars in savings for drivers.

“We know there are thousands of people with overdue Orange County traffic tickets. As a result, many are driving with suspended licenses,” said Orange County Clerk of Courts Tiffany Moore Russell. “Operation Green Light is a chance for people to pay their fine, save the 40 percent collections surcharge and restore their driving privileges. By opening select locations on a Saturday, we’re making it convenient for customers who need to make a payment to come in and do so.”

Residents will be able to reinstate their drivers licenses at the courthouse after paying off overdue fines.

Although the collections surcharge will be waived, late fees and license-reinstatement fees will not.

Orange County will be offering the discount from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 17 at all five court locations, and April 18 at the Downtown Courthouse, Ocoee Branch and Goldenrod Branch.

Osceola County will be accepting these late payments from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 18 at the Osceola Courthouse in Kissimmee.

Lake County will be offering the initiative April 18 at the Lake County Courthouse in Tavares.

In order to save the 40 percent, a person must pay the fine in full at the courthouse. The discount will not be available online or over the phone.
