Samantha Worrell belted her 12th home run of the season in Wednesday’s 16-0 romp past Winter Springs. That gives the USF signee 36 round-trippers for her prolific varsity career — 32 as a sophomore, junior and senior.

That is believed to be an area record and one of the top totals in state fastpitch history. Worrell is batting .514 with 33 RBI and 21 walks (mostly intentiona­l) this season. She has 145 career RBI.

Worrell is also an ace pitcher for the Huskies, owning a 65-17 career record with 572 strikeouts.

Hagerty (22-3) will begin its bid for a Class 8A state title against DeLand in the District 2 tournament at 6 Monday night at the Coraci Sports Complex in Port Orange.

Titans survive

Olympia (20-0-1) squeezed out a 3-2 baseball victory against rival West Orange on Wednesday night to stay unbeaten with four regular-season games to go.

The Titans have won six of their past seven games by two runs or less, allowing an average of one run per game in that stretch.

Olympia remains ranked No. 1 nationally by MaxPreps and USA Today, and it has risen to No. 2 in the Collegiate Baseball Rankings behind once-beaten San Clemente of California.

Baseball America has Olympia at No. 4 this week, one spot behind Lake Worth Park Vista (21-1), which joins the Titans atop the list of 8A state-title contenders.

The Titans will host West Orange (14-8) in the second game of that District 3 series at 4:30 p.m. today.

B. Moore sweeps

Bishop Moore swept the Class 2A, District 8 boys and girls track and field titles at Lake Highland on Thursday

tian Marks took top honors in the triple jump (38-11). The Hornets, who won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, finished with 168 points. Trinity Prep was second with 159 followed by Jones with 117.

Karina Tabuteau was a triple winners for the girls, taking the 100 (12.27), 200 (26.10) and long jump (18-0.25) for the Hornets.

Elizabeth Skipper won the 800 (2:25.96) and 1600 (5:41.09) for the Hornets.

Bishop Moore finished with 210 points, followed by Lake Highland (182.5) and Trinity Prep (110.5).

Winter Park rolls

The Winter Park girls and boys tennis teams each blanked Lake Brantley 5-0 in Class 4A region finals on Thursday.
