Eagles lead new arrivals

Edgewater, Oviedo and Hagerty have stated their cases with strong play of late and those three teams all have a spot in this week’s Super 16 football rankings.

Teams are listed with last week’s ranking if different and win-loss record in parenthesi­s:

1. West Orange (7-1): Warriors have won against Dr. Phillips and Apopka and scored 41 or more points six times.

2. Daytona Beach Mainland (7-1): Bucs have held opponents to 14 points or less five times. Entered last week averaging 423.7 yards of offense.

3. Bishop Moore (7-0): Hornets averaging 40.7 points per game while giving up double-digits for only time in 34-14 win vs. South Sumter.

4. (6) Apopka (7-1): Have wins over three Super 16 teams – Dr. Phillips, Wekiva, Edgewater – and could add fourth this week.

5. (4) Kissimmee Osceola (7-1): Kowboys lead area with 3,172 yards rushing. LaDerrien Wilson tops all rushers with 14 TDs.

6. (5) Lake Brantley (7-0): Patriots have won four games by one score, and lead area with 473.6 offensive yards per game.

7. Dr. Phillips (4-3): Suffered losses to West Orange, Mainland and Apopka while outscoring Wekiva and Oak Ridge by a combined 61-7.

8. Orange City University (7-1): Only loss was on road 24-20 at Lake Brantley. Has since outscored opponents by a combined 66 points.

9. (10) Oak Ridge (6-1): Defeated Timber Creek in second week of season. Has held teams to seven points or fewer four times.

10. (12) South Sumter (7-1): Scored 50 points for second time this season a week after 39-game regular season streak ended.

11. (9) Wekiva (5-2): Mustangs suffered 43-6 loss to Apopka after yielding no more than 14 points in past five games.

12. (14) Timber Creek (5-2): Have won four of five since 32-7 loss to Oak Ridge. Has scored no less than 24 since loss to Wekiva.

13. St. Cloud (5-1): Past three weeks featured loss to Osceola and close outings against Celebratio­n and Liberty.

14. (NR) Edgewater (5-2): Won five in a row since losses to Bishop Moore and Apopka; allowed just two TDs total past four weeks.15. (NR) Oviedo (4-3): Winners of four of past five return to rankings after 32-17 win over Seminole.

16. (NR) Hagerty (5-2): Scored 42 or more points in three of past four wins since loses to Oviedo and Lake Minneola.
