Sentinel Super 16 No. 12 Timber Creek (6-2, 3-0 in 8A-3) wrapped up its first district championship since 2011 with a 38-20 home win over Colonial (1-7, 0-3).

Gateway makes history

Kissimmee Gateway is playoff-bound for the first time in its 31-year football history.

The Panthers (5-3, 3-1 in 8A-7) botched a PAT and two 2-point conversion attempts but emerged unscathed and won 34-23 at home against Davenport Ridge Community (2-6, 1-2) on Thursday.

The Panthers, who have completed district play, will be runner-up behind Kissimmee Osceola as long as the league-leading Kowboys win at last-place Haines City tonight..

Gateway recovered a botched Ridge snap with 24 seconds remaining in the third quarter, and chewed the clock down to 57 seconds in the final period to prevail.

Quarterback Henry Miller accounted for three total touchdowns, including a 67-yard run and passes of eight and 43.

Wekiva wins vs. Ocoee

Ocoee (5-3) managed to pull off a 16-12 upset at No. 11 Wekiva.

The Mustangs (5-3) had a chance to take the lead late but were stopped behind the line of scrimmage on fourth-and-one with 2:21 remaining in the game.

Despite losing 30 yards on two unsportsmanlike-conduct calls — both coming on the same play — Ocoee drove into field-goal range as Candido Worrell connected on a 30-yard kick to secure the win.

Worrell made two field goals in the second quarter to tie the game at 6 at halftime.

Wekiva responded with a long thirdquarter drive capped off with a 2-yard TD run by Jaylon Fair. Fair led the Mustangs with 100 yards on 14 carries.

Ocoee answered in the fourth with a 4-yard run by Jeremih Cosby to take a 13-12 lead. Cosby finished with a team-best 78 yards on 15 carries.
