Deputies: Girlfriend aided escape of Volusia inmate

- By Christal Hayes Staff Writer

Volusia County deputies are continuing their search for an escaped inmate and now say the prisoner’s girlfriend possibly helped with the getaway.

Officials have been looking for 24-year-old Gary Bullock Jr. since he escaped from a work camp Friday afternoon. Now deputies are also searching for Bullock’s girlfriend, Natasha Quigley, who allegedly picked him up from work release around 3:15 p.m., according to Volusia County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Gary Davidson.

Davidson said Bullock was working at the El Caribe Resort & Conference Center as part of his work release. He was supposed to return to his cell at the Tomoka Correctional Institution after his shift ended but instead took off with the 24-year-old Quigley, Davidson said.

Before leaving the hotel, Bullock allegedly cut off his ankle monitor and tossed it into the parking lot, then left in Quigley’s white 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, Davidson said. The Florida license plate reads EUJL31.

Davidson said the pair is traveling with a 3-year-old child. “Investigators also discovered that before leaving, Quigley stole money, blank checks and a gun from her parents’ home in Palm Coast,” Davidson said.

Sheriff’s officials were notified about the incident when state corrections officials got an alert that Bullock’s GPS monitor had been removed.

Bullock was sentenced to prison in 2010 after he was found him guilty of robbery, attempted armed robbery and grand theft, records show. He was serving an eight-year sentence for the crimes. He is about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and 173 pounds. He has a tattoo in Japanese on his right arm. Deputies say he is facing charges of escape, destruction of an electronic monitor and criminal mischief.

Quigley, who lives in Bunnell, is also 5 feet, 6 inches tall and has brown hair and blue eyes. She is about 175 pounds. Davidson said she is facing charges for aiding in the escape of an inmate.

Anyone with information or who spots the pair is asked to call 911 immediately.
