Cal sneaks past No. 12 Arizona

Gabe York dribbled off his foot, then drove to the basket and missed a contested shot in the waning seconds, and California held on to beat No. 12 Arizona 74-73 on Saturday night in Berkeley, Calif.

Cal’s Jordan Mathews converted an off-balance shot under pressure with 1 minute, 13 seconds to play and finished with a seasonbest 28 points. The Golden Bears (14-6, 4-3 Pac-12) stayed unbeaten at home.

The Wildcats (16-4, 4-3) failed to give coach Sean Miller his 300th career win.

Oklahoma 82, Baylor 72:

Buddy Hield scored 14 of his 19 points after halftime, including consecutiv­e 3 pointers that put the No. 1 Sooners ahead to stay in a win over the No. 13 Bears.

Oklahoma (16-2, 5-2 Big 12) matched its season high with 16 3s, including five by Jordan Woodard, who had all 20 of his points in the first half. Baylor (15-4, 5-2) had a 15-game home winning streak snapped.

Michigan State 74, Mary

land 65: Bryn Forbes scored 25 points and Denzel Valentine had 19 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists to lead the No. 11 Spartans over the No. 7 Terrapins.

Matt Costello added 15 points and 12 rebounds for Michigan State (17-4, 4-4 Big Ten). Melo Trimble scored 24 for Maryland (17-3, 6-2).

Creighton 72, Butler 64:

Maurice Watson scored 20 points to lift the Bluejays (14-6, 5-2 Big East) over the No. 18 Bulldogs.

Reserve Kelan Martin scored 22 points for Butler (13-6, 2-5).

Duke 88, North Carolina

State 78: Grayson Allen scored 28 points to help the No. 20 Blue Devils halt a three-game losing streak.

Freshman Brandon Ingram added 25 points for Duke (15-5, 4-3 ACC), which shot 71 percent in the second half. Anthony “Cat” Barber scored 19 points to lead N.C. State (11-9, 1-6).

olina 69: Kevin Punter Jr. scored a career-high 36 points and the Volunteers (10-9, 3-4 SEC) hit 9 of 12 3s in the second half to defeat the No. 24 Gamecocks (17-2, 4-2).
