Carly Rae Jepsen

- Trevor Fraser

WHAT: You probably already have it stuck in your head, don’t you? You probably read her name and, instantly, the chorus to 2012’s Song of the Summer insisted itself upon your brain. “Hey, I just met you/And this is crazy/But here’s my number/ So...”

Carly Rae Jepsen may have placed third in the 2007 season of “Canadian Idol,” but the British Columbia singer’s pop hit “Call Me Maybe” went straight to the top of the charts in 18 countries. In addition to the song’s technical near-perfection in developing the ultimate charming ear worm of a hook, fellow maple leaf crooner Justin Bieber boosted the song by tweeting his love for it before it was released outside of the Great White North. The song was so popular, it overshadowed the JIM DYSON/GETTY IMAGES release of her follow-up album, “Kiss,” which many critics considered to be one of the best pop albums of 2012.

But Jepsen, 30, may finally have shed the crushing weight of the success of “Call Me Maybe” with her turn last month as Frenchy in “Grease Live.” Though the character shares her only dedicated song, “Beauty School Dropout,” with a strong male vocalist, and the rest of the time she’s in the choir, Jepsen earned praise for her singing and portrayal of the quirky Pink Lady. Maybe now people will be able to pay attention to the rest of her catalog and not get hung up on her one smash hit. Maybe. WHEN: 8 p.m. Monday WHERE: The Plaza Live, 425 N. Bumby Ave., Orlando COST: $25-$30 CALL: 877-435-9849 ONLINE: plazaliveorlando.com
