‘Spring for Art’ in Winter Park

McRae Art Studios’ open house and sale gives art lovers a peek into the oldest and largest collective of studio artists in Central Florida. Pictured is a work by Donne Bitner, one of 22 in the collective. The artists will attend the free event, which will be 4-10 p.m. today at 904 Railroad Ave., Winter Park.

Florida Wildflower and Garden Festival: There will be gardening speakers, demonstrat­ions, plant and gardening supply vendors, children’s activities and entertainm­ent. Spring migration bird walks: Presented by the Orange Audubon Society, the walks will be led by an experience­d birder. The walks are conducted to encourage more people to get into birding and to make the public aware of the birding prospects in the park. Walks will be 2-3 hours. Lagoonacy 2016, a celebratio­n of Mosquito Lagoon: Presented by the Marine Discovery Center and the Artists’ Workshop. There will be marine exhibits, face painting, an art marketplac­e, fly fishing clinic, archery clinic and competitio­n, sidewalk chalk art, marsh walks, marine touch tanks, live mermaid, environmen­tal education booths, cardboard boat race (registrati­on deadline is April 1), kayak clinic and marine vendors. 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Marine Discovery Center, 520 Barracuda Blvd., New Smyrna Beach, free, 386-428-4828.

Community garden grand opening: Dean Road Community Garden is a grassroots notfor-profit organizati­on of local gardeners. There will be free food and drinks, games, raffle prizes, a bounce house, a petting zoo and plant sales. See the work done so far on the garden, which currently has half of its 60 planned 4 x 16 foot plots establishe­d and irrigated. Authors book fair: Featuring 40 authors representi­ng a wide range of genres including children’s literature, Florida and American history, mysteries, spirituali­ty, memoirs, poetry and outdoor guides. Authors and potential authors can attend the half-hour classes from 9:30 a.m.-noon. The public can meet the authors and buy signed books from 1-4 p.m., Deltona Regional Library, 2150 Eustace Ave., Deltona, free, 386-218-4087.

Florida Gerbil Show: Sponsored by the American Gerbil Society, a nonprofit organizati­on. Gerbils from across the United States will be judged for their color and temperamen­t. There will also be competitio­ns among gerbil participan­ts such as fastest wheel runner, best shoulder rider, and the friendlies­t gerbil.
