UCF coach earns her 800th win

- Staff and wire report

UCF softball coach Renee Luers-Gillispie notched her 800th career win when the Knights earned a 1-0 victory at UConn Friday. “I had no idea,” Luers-Gillispie said of the milestone. “The team came out with a sign after the game, which really nice. I was just happy to get the win.” Luers-Gillispie has recorded 548 of her career victories while leading the Knights.

Senior Shelby Turnier tossed a four-hit complete game for UCF (24-13), helping Luers-Gillispie reach the milestone.

Turnier fanned 10 during the shutout victory.

Freshman Cassady Brewer went 3-for-3 with a run scored.

FSU tickets

More than 30,000 tickets have been sold for Florida State’s spring game in Orlando.

The annual intrasquad scrimmage is being played away from Doak Campbell Stadium due to ongoing construction. Instead, FSU opted to hold the contest at the Orlando Citrus Bowl at 3 p.m. April 9, and they school has surpassed its expectations for ticket sales.

A representative from FSU told the Orlando Sentinel that all club seats have been sold out and that only 100 tailgate spots remain.

FSU will try to emulate the feel of a home game at Doak Campbell Stadium by bringing Osceola and Renegade, cheerleaders and the marching band to Orlando.

There will be at least one twist, however. Beer will be available to purchase during the game, as is normally the case at the Citrus Bowl.

Tickets cost $5 if they are pre-ordered and $11 if they are purchased at the gate.

Parker arrested

Former NFL wide receiver Preston Parker was arrested Thursday in Boca Raton in connection with drug and gun charges.

Parker, 29, was charged with cocaine possession, using or displaying a firearm during a felony and destroying evidence, according to court documents.

He played at Florida State before spending time with the Buccaneers, Saints and Giants.

Parker played in just two games for the Giants last season, making five catches for 43 yards before being released in September.

For his NFL career, he has 85 receptions for 1,057 yards and five touchdowns in 45 games.

Peters out

The brief USF career of sophomore point guard Roddy Peters is over.

Peters, a Maryland transfer limited to 10 games this past season due to a foot fracture, has been dismissed by Bulls coach Orlando Anti

gua for repeated violations of school policy.

“I wish Roddy the best of luck,” Antigua said in a USF news release.

After sitting out the 2014-15 season per NCAA transfer rules, Peters — whose sleekness appeared an ideal fit for Antigua’s high-tempo philosophy — started eight games, averaging 9.8 points, 3.5 assists and 3.3 rebounds. He sustained his foot injury during a 65-46 home loss to NC State and didn’t play again.

Peters now will be seeking his third program in four seasons.
