Two in Klassic semifinals

Two area teams remain in title contention at the 24th Annual Kissimmee Klassic at the Osceola County Softball Complex.

Hagerty opened up an early lead Friday before disposing of Pembroke Pines Charter 6-2 in a Blue Bracket quarterfin­al while Lake Howell knocked off top-seeded Montverde Academy 9-3 to advance in the Gold Bracket.

Aubree Seaney and Chelsea Johnson each went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Huskies and pitcher Ashley Worrell finished with four strikeouts. Seaney drove in Jordie Miller on a single in the bottom of the second inning to put Hagerty in front 3-1.

The defending champion Huskies, ranked No. 2 in the Sentinel Super 6, advance to Saturday’s Blue Bracket semifinal against Gainesvill­e at noon.

Lake Howell will face off with Starke Bradford at noon in a Gold Bracket semifinal. Shanika Klett finished 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored for the Silver Hawks on Friday. Alyssa Oakes drove in two runs on a homer to cap a six-run second inning.

Natalia Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with two runs scored for Montverde.

Kissimmee Osceola and Orange City University were eliminated from Gold Bracket title contention as the Kowboys blew a 4-1lead in an 8-4 loss to Bradford and the Titans lost 6-4 to Naples Barron Collier. Lake Nona dropped to 0-2 after being blanked 9-0 by Okeechobee.

Winter Springs and St. Cloud rebounded from opening day losses in the Blue Bracket. The Bears won 10-0 over Gulliver Prep and the Bulldogs scored four in the bottom of the seventh to walk-off against Bishop Verot.
